Prayer and Family Life

Choosing to send your child to a Catholic school is a decision that requires a family commitment to the values of the Catholic faith.
As your child's first and foremost teacher, it is important to remember the power of teaching by example.

"Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words." St Francis of Assisi

Family Prayer

Family prayer does not need to be a holy session of traditional prayers. Simply sharing one thing that you are grateful for today around the dinner table or before bed is a great opportunity to have an attitude of gratitude and find out more about each other's day. Explore the three "ways to pray" below with your family.

Prayer of Thanks

When worry, sadness and grief touch our children's hearts, families need to navigate how to live through these times together.  One way is to provide opportunities for families to give thanks.

A Thanksgiving Prayer,

by Rabbi Naomi Levy

For the laughter of the children,
For my own life breath,
For the abundance of food on this table,
For the ones who prepared this sumptuous feast,
For the roof over our heads,
The clothes on our backs,
For our health,
And our wealth of blessings,
For this opportunity to celebrate with family and friends,
For the freedom to pray these words
Without fear,
In any language,
In any faith,
In this great country,
Whose landscape is as vast and beautiful as her inhabitants.
Thank You, God, for giving us all these. Amen.

Table Conversations

Family conversations around the dinner table can be a great way to unwind and relax, away from media.

Research also indicates that conversations around the dinner table can be a great way to help with children's development as it expands their vocabulary and communication skills.

There are some great conversation starters on The Everyday Family website.
